That being said, the studio has confirmed some news regarding the Halo Infinite launch, namely that the latest Master Chief adventure will not feature campaign co-op or Forge right at launch.

Though I think on Legendary difficulty, their weaker nature does come through a bit better but I do think they could have gone even further with it for sure. Like you, I wish they'd had played a bit more distinct from playing as Master Chief. One thing I do agree with you on and also had wished they'd had leaned more into at the time was the vulnerability angle of ODST's. I know I've never really bothered with FF as much as I did with ODST. And its Firefight still remains the best implementation of the mode since, at least that's still the general impression I have. I don't think I ever played the ODST campaign solo, and that the ODST package itself definitely felt more geared to co-op play than Halo even usually was. As a bite sized, H3 expansion with interesting flavor distinct from H3 itself, ODST is pretty damn good and compliments H3 itself really well. If you take it as basically a big Halo 3 expansion pack that included a new, on the short side but more unique campaign, a map pack for H3's still strong multiplayer and Firefight as a fun co-op wave-based mode it was a pretty good package. I think if you take ODST as a 'standalone Halo game', it's probably a bit disappointing. I haven't played ODST since its original launch way back when. I replayed it recently and i mean the open city could be a bit more varied in architecture and the missions could be a bit more interesting (loved the nature park for example!) but once again everything in ODST is so tiny and happens so quickly that it's hard to ask for more without also asking for it to just not be what made it so special if that makes sense In a way it reminds me way more of something like edith finch than of halo The flashbacks and phone calls are a very effective way to really anchor you into the place and give you the sense that something happened there and you just missed out on it, with little glimpses at what happened exactly that fill just the right gaps, and the way the finale builds up to the next morning in real time? absolute chef kiss moment.Д«ut yeah if i was into what halo has to offer, which to me is massive scale and cool locales and interesting fight arenas? it's really bad at doing that, it's so linear, on purpose but it is. It's my fav halo game but im 100% confident it worked on me because it's not like any other halo game at all basically? The story is personal and cozy, no big baddies, no cosmic scale fights, just landing on a desolate city and picking up the pieces. * The worst enemy variety in the series? I think so.

* I get it, the soundtrack is a different style. * Where are the substantial new mechanics? Even a jetpack like what Reach did later would have been thematic and fresh. Nathan Fillion's voice is hardly a substitute. * There was zero interesting character development. The much-vaunted atmosphere of the city was fine, but not as good as, say, comparable rainy levels in Halo: Reach. Hunting for audiologs didn't involve any real gameplay. * The open world was underdeveloped and kind of boring. I still had a regenerating shield (yeah yeah, 'stamina'), I could still rip turrets from the ground, I could still withstand huge damage. Sure, the main character's capabilities were a little weaker, but not enough to really change my playstyle. For even Grunts to be dangerous foes, and for Brutes or Hunters to feel like bosses. Here are the things I hoped for, and why they underwhelmed me: Unfortunately, I don't think the game lived up to any of its promise. On paper, the concepts of ODST seemed great. I must say, I was pretty hyped for a mix-up in the Halo formula. I recently finished the MCC version of ODST.
